Brammer was founded on 16 January 1920 by Harry Brammer. He started with £3,000 of authorized capital and established H. Brammer and Company Limited. Harry Brammer was a great inventor: he turned waste pieces of leather into something useful, like a toe strap to keep cyclists feet firmly attached to the pedals, which was later registered as the trademark 'Brammer Toe Strap'. Another innovative idea was a detachable leather linked 'V' belt, which probably became his most famous invention. The first Brammer factory was in Kirkstall Road in Leeds.
